Asha House

Asha is a name with many meanings—Wish, Desire, Hope, Life, Alive, Happy. It is connected to the name of the Ash tree which in Celtic mythology is a Gentle Giant and guardian protector of children.

Asha House has been a true multi-system collaboration beginning when this house was given by Wayne County Commissioners to Wayne Metropolitan Housing Authority for the purpose of returning and keeping our kids in the community under the supervision of Wayne County Family and Children First Council’s (WCFCFC) Diversion Team.

The Diversion Team is a collaboration of Wayne County Children Services Board (CSB), Juvenile Court, Mental Health and Recovery Board, Board of Developmental Disabilities, Wooster City Schools and Tri-County Educational Service Center. They are responsible for oversight of youth in service coordination, residential treatment and treatment foster care in Wayne County.

Asha House is managed by Cherokee Rose, a provider licensed by the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities who has partnered with the Diversion Team for a number of years.

Asha House will work to connect youth to their families—biological, kinship, foster and adoptive– by providing the opportunity for in person family therapy, home visits and integration into the community following completion of residential treatment. We will work to keep families together, in the community by providing planned respite care, and keeping youth safe by making short term emergency placement available for youth who would otherwise spend the night at Children Services.
