Agency Overview
The Wayne Metropolitan Housing Authority (WMHA) was founded in 1969 as a political subdivision of the State of Ohio. This public agency, funded in part through the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), provides subsidized housing options to approximately 1,400 household in Wayne, Holmes, and Ashland counties. The Housing Choice Voucher or formerly known as Section 8 is a program where WMHA administers subsidy provided by HUD to over 900 families in Wayne, Holmes, and Ashland Counties. Our Public Housing consists of 224 apartments and single family houses scattered throughout Wayne County. WMHA also owns and/or manages over 100 units that consists of apartments, duplexes, group homes, and single family homes.
WMHA partners with other community organizations such as OneEighty, Anazao, The Counseling Center of Wayne/Holmes, Salvation Army, City of Wooster and many more to ensure that our clients are provided with the necessary needs to help navigate through life challenges. In addition, WMHA administers and/or manages grants such as Family Self Sufficiency (FSS) and Community Housing Impact Preservation (CHIP) with the assistance of partnering agencies. At WMHA, it is our mission to create a safe space encouraging personal growth and self-sufficiency through sustainable housing opportunities and guidance for people with diverse needs through multiple programs and partnerships.
