Application Process

Persons wishing to apply for housing assistance should visit our offices at 345 North Market St., Wooster, Ohio or phone us at 330-264-2727 for more information.

Applications are accepted online for our Public Housing, Housing Choice Voucher/Section 8 programs. Secrest Village, Interfaith Properties and Shreve Manor physical applications are located at our main office.

The Wayne MHA has applied a weighted preference point system that is used to establish the order of placement on the waiting list. The more preference points an applicant claims and verify the higher the applicant is placed on the waiting list.

Waiting list preferences for the Public Housing Program

  • Elderly or Disabled
  • Assisted Living Medicaid Waiver (Townview Terrace)
  • Referral by a partnering service organization
  • Veterans and Servicemen, including families of deceased veterans and servicemen, as required by Ohio Revised Code 3735.42

Waiting list preferences for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program:

The Housing Choice Voucher Program utilizes three priority preferences that allow for the most needy families living in Wayne County to be assisted first. Those preference categories are as follows:

  • Elderly or Disabled
  • Referral by a partnering service organization
  • Veterans and Servicemen, including families of deceased veterans and servicemen, as required by Ohio Revised Code 735.42

Applicants will be required to provide the following documents* before being admitted into a program or applications will be considered incomplete:

  • Birth Certificates for ALL family members*
  • Social Security cards for ALL family members*
  • Declaration of Citizenship Form (provided with application) for ALL family members*
  • Identification Card (ID) for ALL family members 18+*
  • DD214 (Military Discharge Form if applicable)
  • Pay stub (if applicable)
  • SSI Benefit award letter (if applicable)

Applicants are placed on the waiting list according to date and time of application and priority/preference status. (applications that are incomplete will be placed on hold until all documents* are provided in a timely manner)
